Our Story

In 1999, thanks to their success in Connecticut, Chris and Sue were invited to the White House to meet with the President and a select group of dignitaries to share the best practices on the challenge of creating self-sufficiency for millions of Americans. CareerTEAM quickly began to develop a national reputation as experts in transitioning hard-to-serve populations into gainful employment. Government awards soon followed in Miami, Baltimore, Washington DC, Philadelphia, Wilmington, Boston and Springfield, serving over 50,000 job seekers.

Over the next decade, the company grew to over 100 employees and continued to generate lots of publicity. CareerTEAM received the US Chamber of Commerce Blue Chip Enterprise Award For Innovation, was named as one of INC Magazine's 500 Fastest Growing Privately Held Companies and was profiled in numerous media sources including CNN, NBC, and Fox News.

In 2009, Chris authored his highly anticipated book, The Career Guarantee, which summarized his 20+ years as a nationally recognized career coach and divided the career management process into 10 specific chapters. While the national book tour generated positive reviews, the question remained if the general public would read a 469 page book to realize the full value of the advice.

Formed in 2011, this new technology-based career LMS was branded as Career Edge. Portal usage is comprised of students from schools who contract to implement Career Edge as their new Student Success course offering and/or government agencies that provide access to their clients through a smart phone or computer lab.

An additional challenge was to increase the expertise of assigned staff in education and government. As technology and social media dramatically changed the job search landscape, many in education and government experienced declining performance outcomes, increased student loan defaults and a growing technology divide with hiring authorities. Over 90% of employers utilize social media to assess, screen, and hire candidates. The availability of sufficient access to technology ("band width") and ignorance of social media for schools and government was of paramount concern. In response, CareerTEAM created the Career Edge Minute: a staff capacity building portal which provides professional development in the form of video-based coaching and guidance modules.

Formed in 2011, this new sister company was named Career TEAM Solutions and the new technology-based career course portal was branded as Career Edge. An additional challenge was to increase the expertise of assigned staff in education and government. As technology and social media dramatically changed the job searching landscape, many in education and government experienced declining performance outcomes, increased student loan defaults and a growing technology divide with hiring authorities. Over 94% of employers utilize social media to assess, screen, and hire candidates now. The availability of sufficient access to technology ("band width") and ignorance of social media for schools and government is of paramount concern. In response, the CareerTEAM Solutions team created the Career Edge Minute (see demo): a staff capacity building portal which provides professional development in the form of video-based coaching and guidance.

In 2012, Career TEAM was featured in a CBS 60 Minutes segment seen by 18 million viewers. The segment focused on the alarming trend of millions of Americans who were exhausting their unemployment benefits without finding work. Career Edge was depicted as a viable tool based on a piloted group of 100 long-term unemployed Americans filmed by 60 Minutes; 70% of whom had found work after using the Career Edge. Since then, the Platform to Employment (P2E) pilot  funded by The Workplace Inc., has expanded in a 25 city national roll-out.

In 2013, the US Department of Labor announced a $150 million grant to serve Long Term Unemployed of which Career Edge content is a staple.

In 2014, Career TEAM added the services of national experts and continued to partner with education and government entities in need of building more robust performance based, career cultures. The Career Edge portal grew to 100,000+ active users while the Career Edge Minute expanded to 10,000+ active staff users from institutions like The University of Connecticut, Workplace Inc. and Lincoln Technical Institute.

In 2015, Career TEAM continued its transition from a Government funded service provider to a social initiative based consultant group. Leadership expanded its reach by establishing strategic partnerships with respected entities like McKinsey & Company and infusing its professional development coaching into prevention and substance abuse centers. Career TEAM appointed Micaela Alpers, the former National Sales Manager for McGraw-Hill, to the role of President of Education Services and established its Education HQ in San Diego, California. The company now had a presence on both US Coasts.

In addition to developing on demand learning modules for youth and adult populations, the company also began translating printed content from other companies into usable on-line deliverables.

For 2016, CareerTEAM has contracted with the CT Department of Mental Health & Addition Services (DMHAS) to create a Training and Technical Service Center (TTASC) to increase prevention efforts, strengthen staff member expertise and improve the quality & relevance of the field of prevention. This includes creating a new LMS digital system for accessing prevention content and documenting training participation. CareerTEAM will take the lead on website development, creating a technology platform to access training related content and custom content conversion.

Looking to the future, CareerTEAM continues to pioneer innovative solutions to our most pressing social challenges.
